That fascination grew up with her and turned into a deeper passion for conservation. For Annika, having supportive parents has also shaped her experience with wildlife as a child. Annika herself is most interested in the life history and behavior of snakes, in particular, the Northern Pacific rattlesnake. She noted that during the summer months, rattlesnakes routinely return to communal shedding areas to shed their skin, mate, and hang out with each other.
For instance, Annika recalled a story of rattlesnake mothers seeming to provide maternal care for their newborn babies. She then warned that the anecdotes are difficult to confirm since their nesting spots are hard to locate.
